Bob Sellar Memorial Tree Planting

We are honored to share that a Sycamore tree has been planted at the Silver Lake Institute in memory of Bob Sellar, a cherished friend and longtime part of our community. The tree now stands proudly on the Park Avenue slope, near the head of Fillmore Avenue—just above the Sellar cottage.
The Sycamore—majestic and enduring—is a fitting tribute. Known for its strength, beauty, and longevity, the Sycamore symbolizes shelter, memory, and growth. Its broad leaves and distinctive bark will serve as a reminder of Bob’s generous spirit and lasting impact on those who knew him.
This living memorial was planted with care and intention. As the tree grows and stretches its branches toward the sky, we hope it invites reflection, conversation, and quiet moments of remembrance for all who pass by.
We thank the friends and neighbors who helped make this tribute possible. May the Sycamore thrive and stand for many generations as a gentle presence watching over the hillside—and over the Sellars cottage, "The Clarendon".
This tree was sponsored through a collection of private donors. To plant a tree in memory of an Institute resident, you can contribute $100 on our donation page. Remember to include the individual's name when donating. The Institute will choose the variety and planting site based on the nursery stock available and open areas any surplus will reallocated to the general tree replacement fund.
