Historic District Expansion Meeting

PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE:

Silver Lake Institute Historic District – Proposed Expansion

DATE: Saturday, June 7th

TIME: 9:00AM

LOCATION: Stoody Hall

The Silver Lake Institute has partnered with The Landmark Society of Western New York to expand the existing Silver Lake Institute Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This expansion aims to include areas previously excluded due to minor alterations caused by a fire. The New York State Historic Preservation Office (NY SHPO) has determined that these areas are now eligible for inclusion.

Over the coming months, Landmark staff will conduct research and fieldwork to officially update the district’s boundaries. This expansion will allow additional property owners access to the NYS Historic Homeownership Tax Credit Program, a benefit already available to those within the existing district.

Rehabilitation of historic Institute cottages may qualify for a New York State tax incentive. The Historic Homeownership Rehabilitation Credit program offers a state income tax credit equal to 20% of qualified rehabilitation expenses associated with repair, maintenance, and upgrades to historic homes. The value of the credit is applied to your NYS tax liability to reduce the amount you owe. The program covers 20% of qualified rehabilitation expenses up to a credit value of $50,000 per year.

Join us for this important informational session! Landmark staff will present an overview of the project, followed by a Q&A session. Whether you are a current property owner in the district, or your property may soon be included, we encourage you to attend and learn more!
