During recent painting work at the Hoag Art Gallery, it became clear that two of the columns on the front stoop had suffered significant rot over time. To prevent further deterioration and preserve the historic character of the building, the columns were carefully removed this fall.

volunteers undertook a meticulous restoration, repairing the damaged areas with wood epoxy and rebuilding the columns to their original form and strength. Once the repairs were complete, the columns were reinstalled, returning the front entrance to both its structural integrity and its original appearance.

This spring, the restored columns will receive a fresh coat of paint to match the rest of the building, completing the project.

Upcoming projects for this season will be a repair of the leaking skylights and water damage to the second floor walls.
