SLI Historic District Expansion
With the help of a generous grant from the Preservation League of NYS, the Silver Lake Institute has collaborated with our consultant, the Landmark Society of Western New York, to expand our existing Historic District. This effort aims to include more homes and more accurately reflect the history of our community.
The Landmark Society has released a proposed map outlining a potential expansion of the Silver Lake Institute Historic District.
The Silver Lake Institute Historic District boundary expansion nomination’s FINAL PUBLIC MEETING will be held on Tuesday, November 10th, 2026 at 6:00PM. This meeting will be held virtually. Join details will be posted on the Landmark Society's website LINKED HERE

The newly drafted map—currently under review—illustrates the prospective boundaries for the expanded district, offering residents a clear look at which properties are under consideration for inclusion.
Key Details for Homeowners
Completely Voluntary and Non-Mandatory: District officials emphasize that the proposal is strictly non-binding. Inclusion in the proposed historic district does not dictate what homeowners can or cannot do with their personal property. Residents retain full autonomy over future property modifications, repairs, and design decisions.
Access to Valuable Incentives: Rather than imposing new restrictions, the proposed expansion is designed to unlock significant benefits for property owners within the boundary. Homeowners may become eligible for valuable historic preservation grants, tax credits, and financial incentives to help maintain and enhance their historic properties should they elect to participate in the available offerings.
Community members are encouraged to review the proposed boundaries and learn more about how historic designation can support neighborhood preservation while empowering individual property owners. More information about the tax credit program can be found on the SLI website. https://www.silverlakeinstitute.org/preseravtion-tax-credits
