The Town of Castile is moving forward with a plan to dissolve its existing fire protection district and form a new Joint Fire District with the Village of Silver Springs and the Town of Gainesville. This new district would provide fire protection services across all three communities.

A public hearing will be held on December 15, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Silver Springs Municipal Hall (43 N. Main Street) to review the proposal and hear public comment. If approved, the new Joint Fire District would take effect in 2026.

Under the current proposal, it is unclear what will become of

fire protection service for SLI, which is now covered by nearby Perry would transition to the new Joint Fire District. No final decisions have been made, and community input will be an important part of the process.

Residents are encouraged to attend the public hearing, review the proposal, and share their questions or concerns to help ensure continued, reliable fire protection for Castile.
